Stock exchange
The stock exchange is an organized market which brings together buyers and sellers of corporate and government securities.

Privately owned companies seek a stock exchange quotation for their shares for the following reasons:

1. The shareholder of unquoted companies may request a flotation though this adds nothing to the capital resources of the company; it provides them with marketable shares which may be used for a variety of purposes e.g. the spread of investment risk or the payment of estate duty...
