"Today, with the spread of education and the enlargement of social activities, the vulnerable members of our society are given more attention. However, no society on earth which provides social services can claim perfection. The old still suffer in the rich countries like USA and Germany. More of the Mauritian public budget is now devoted to the poor, the sick, the handicapped, the unemployed. Food, clothing, medicine are sometimes distributed free to those in need. Children are vaccinated against common diseases according to the law and without charge. The old and the handicapped are given specialized help-old-aged
pension is increased regularly although the amount is never really sufficient. Hospitals services are free for all but there are always
improvements to be made."
